Hairy eyes, yellow bands of 3rd and 4th targa are complete, wing membrane entirely trichose and hind femur black on about basal three-quarters (Vockeroth 1992). (Source: Entomology collection (E.H. Strickland Entomological Museum) ) Length:8.6-13.3 mm (Vockeroth 1992)

Biology

Larvae of Syrphus torvus feed on several species of aphids (Láska and Starý, 1980).
