Identification

Yellow face with bare eyes, posteriorly curved complete yellow bands of 3rd and 4th targa, wing membrane with bare areas and hind femur black on about basal two-thirds (Vockeroth 1992). Syrphus vitripennis can be confused with S. ribesii (Source: Entomology collection (E.H. Strickland Entomological Museum) ) Length: 7.6-ll.4 mm (Vockeroth 1992)
Biology
Larvae of Syrphus vitripennis feed on several species of aphids (Láska and Starý, 1980).
Distribution
Alaska, Canada, South to California, Colorado, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Europe, Asia (Vockeroth, J.R. 1992).
